Xfce 4.6 final released

Xfce logo After more than two years of development, Xfce has been updated to version 4.6 which includes several bug fixes and new features. The open source desktop environment for Unix and Linux platforms aims to be fast and lightweight, while still being visually appealing and adhering to standards.

The new Xfce release includes several improvements over version 4.4. Features include a new settings manager making it easier to configure Xfce, an improved session manager for faster startup and a new G-Streamer based sound mixer and many improvements to the core components. An application finder has also been added to make launching programs simpler. A full list of changes can be found in the Changelog and a tour of the updated desktop can be found here.

While most distributions ship with Xfce, you can install the updated version by downloading the newest packages. A list of Xfce based Linux distributions can be found here.
