Xen version 4.1 released
After 11 months of work, the Xen developers have announced that version 4.1 of the open source Xen hypervisor software is now available to download. Among the virtualisation solution's new features are a revised XL tool stack, the Credit2 scheduler designed for very large systems and latency-sensitive workloads, support for more than 255 processors, EPT/VTd 1GB/2MB super pages, and the Advanced Vector Extension (AVX) for new x86 CPUs (SSE5).
Also included is a new Memory Access API which allows developers to integrate third-party security solutions into Xen's virtualised environments. Furthermore, the developers note that automated regression tests now provide even better software stability.
Further information on the hypervisor's new and improved features can be found in the release notes. Xen is licensed under the GPL.
