WordPress for iOS adds Featured Image support
The latest major update to the WordPress for iOS mobile application adds one of the most user-requested features: support for uploading Featured Images for blog posts from directly within the app. Provided that the currently used theme supports it, users can now upload a Featured Image to their blog by using the uploader under the Settings section of the Post Editor; previously, this could only be done via the web interface.
Version 3.2 of the native iOS app also introduces support for push notifications for self-hosted blogs, alerting users to new comments on their posts. Push notifications for blogs hosted on WordPress.com were added in version 3.0. As the feature needs WordPress.com's central server to deliver notifications to devices, it requires that users install the free Jetpack plugin on their blog.
Other changes include moving all of the preferences from the device's Settings screen (Home Screen ➤ Settings ➤ WordPress) to the Settings screen within the app itself and fixes for nearly 70 bugs, some of which caused the app to crash. The developers say that moving forward they will be switching to "a more feature-driven release cycle, meaning that updates will come faster and focus on single features and enhancements."
More details about the iOS app update are provided in a post on the Wordpress for iOS blog. Version 3.2 of the app is available to download from the iTunes App Store and requires iOS 4.3 or later. The app supports WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress.org blogs running WordPress 3.1 or higher. Like WordPress itself and the mobile app for Android, WordPress for iOS is licensed under the GPLv2 or later.
