WordPress for iOS 2.8 adds Stats & Quick Photo
Source: WordPress After nearly two months of development, the WordPress development team has published version 2.8 of its WordPress for iOS app. Using the mobile application, users can easily post to, and edit, their WordPress blogs from an iOS mobile device, such as an iPhone or iPad.
While other releases of WordPress for iOS have focused on improving stability of the app, the developers say that this is the first version in some time that they have added new features. WordPress for iOS 2.8 adds a new "Quick Photo" button that allows users to quickly launch the camera and take a picture for a new post – this feature is currently only available on iPhones. Users can now also access their blog's statistics on the go; for example, there are charts for Daily, Weekly, and Monthly page views. The Stats feature works natively on all WordPress.com blogs, however, self-hosted blogs require Jetpack or the stand-alone Stats plug-in.
Other changes include extra language support with 10 languages (German, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Hebrew, Dutch, French, and Croatian) added and various bug fixes. The developers also note that version 2.8 will likely be the last release to support the 3.x branch of iOS. Users with iOS devices that have not yet been upgraded to 4.0 or later are advised to keep a copy of this app.
Further information about the update can be fond in a post on the WordPress for iOS blog by Isaac Keyet. WordPress for iOS 2.8 is available to download via the iTunes App Store for devices running iOS 3.1.3 or later and supports both WordPress.com and self-hosted blogs, requiring WordPress 2.9.2 or higher.
Like WordPress, WordPress for iOS 2.8 is released under the GNU General Public License Version 2 (GPL). Users interested in contributing to the application are encouraged to do so via the WordPress for iOS project developer portal.
