WordPress for Android gains follow functionality
Version 1.5 of the WordPress for Android mobile app has been released to the Android Market. Using the mobile application, users can easily post to, and edit, their WordPress blogs from an Android mobile device.
In addition to simply allowing users to work on their own blogs, WordPress for Android 1.5 includes new functionality that lets users follow other blogs and web sites from within the app. Clicking the "Follow" button when viewing any WordPress.com blog (available in the top admin bar when logged in) will automatically add it to the reader. Blogs and web sites that aren't on WordPress.com are also supported, provided they have an RSS feed. Support for the HTML5 video tag for video uploads replaces the outdated QuickTime tag. A "handful of bugs" have also been addressed in the update.
According to WordPress mobile developer Dan Roundhill, work on the next major update to WordPress for Android, version 2.0, has already begun. Roundhill says that it will "have a beautiful new look and will be stuffed with awesome new features". Further information about the 2.0 release will be published on the WordPress for Android Developer Blog in the coming weeks.
More details about the update can be found in a post on the WordPress for Android blog. WordPress for Android 1.5.0 is available to download from the Android Market and supports both WordPress.com and self-hosted blogs, requiring WordPress 3.0 or later. Existing users can update to the latest version using the Android Market's built-in update feature. Like WordPress, WordPress for Android is released under the GPL.
