Wine 1.3.9 adds new features

The Wine project development team has announced the release of the version that will eventually become Wine 1.4 – version 1.3.9 from the development branch. Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) is free open source software that allows users to run Windows applications on Linux and Unix by providing its own native replacements for Windows DLLs.

Wine 1.3.9 includes fixes for nearly 60 bugs found in the previous version and features the beginning of support for Microsoft ActiveX within Wine's built-in browser. Support for the OpenCL 1.0 library wrapper has also been added. Other changes include the addition of icons on Internet shortcut menu entries, a new scheme for auto-generated DLL registration and standardization of code implementing COM interfaces and, as usual, a variety of translation updates.

As with all development releases, use of Wine 1.3.9 in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.
