KVM logo Red Hat has released paravirtualised network and storage drivers for running Windows guest systems under the KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machines) virtualisation solution for Linux. The drivers reportedly allow Windows to perform much better under KVM than in fully virtualised form.

Early this year, Red Hat announced new virtualisation products based on KVM instead of Xen; a beta test has been in operation since mid June. Since version 5.4, KVM has been part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). The move towards KVM was preceded by the makers of KVM, Qumranet, being taken over last year.
