Open source Customer Relationship Management vendor SugarCRM will release version 5.2 of its eponymous suite at the end of this month, adding new "cloud connectors" to allow users to pull in information from external sources, such as social networking sites. These will allow SugarCRM to display pop-up "cloud view" windows and rolling "social feeds", with information gathered from external sites, including third-party sites. A particular focus is on business-oriented Web 2.0 sites such as LinkedIn, Hoover's, Zoominfo and Jigsaw. For instance, a window could show which of a user's LinkedIn connections worked at a particular client company.

SugarCRM is a web-based application, which can be rented as a service from the vendor itself, bought loaded onto a dedicated "appliance", or installed on a company's own servers. A completely free version is also available. The new facility is one application of a new data services framework, which can also be used to import data into the CRM program itself. The new framework, like the rest of the application, is licensed under the GPL v3.
