WeTab is based on MeeGo

At a press conference held yesterday, Intel and the WeTab developers, 4tiitoo, announced that the upcoming WeTab internet tablet, scheduled to arrive in September, will run the Linux-based MeeGo mobile operating system developed by Nokia and Intel. 4tiitoo said that the decision to use MeeGo was made earlier this year. Compared with the previous Ubuntu-based system, the new system has reportedly allowed the developers to improve the tablet's battery life and overall performance.
The user interface is still reportedly the same, and the WeTab continues to be developed via 4tiitoo's own software rather than the MeeGo Touch framework Intel presented at the Computex show. The tablet's app range also remains unchanged: it is said to be able run Android, Adobe Air and Linux applications. Users will be able to download these apps from a WeTab store developed by 4tiitoo.
