Mobile network operator Vodafone UK has confirmed that it will be releasing four new highly anticipated and top of the line Android-based smartphones in the coming months. The mobile phone carrier, which now also sells Apple's iPhone, seems to be strongly backing the Android platform devices. According to the company's Coming soon page for new mobile phones, all of its planned upcoming releases will be Android smartphones.

In April, the company expects to launch the latest handsets from HTC and Sony Ericsson, many of which were first shown at this year's Mobile World Congress(MWC) in Barcelona. Upcoming HTC models include an updated version of the popular Hero (AKA the T-Mobile G2 Touch), the first Android device that included Flash support, and HTC's own version of the Google Nexus One. Vodafone expect to launch the HTC Legend and Desire, along with Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 next month for pay monthly customers.

Vodafone will also be the first carrier to directly offer Google's Android 2.1 based Nexus One smartphone, however, a release date for the Nexus One on Vodafone has yet to be confirmed. The company only says that it's "Coming soon".

Since January, the Nexus One has only been available directly from Google in the US, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. In the US, T-Mobile customers can purchase the handset at a discounted price with a new or renewed contract, however, users are still required to order the device directly from Google. Some UK import sites, such as Expansys and Play.com, are also selling the device directly, but for a much higher price .
