Video advertising expert VideoEgg has purchased Six Apart, creator of the Movable Type blogging tool, for an undisclosed sum. VideoEgg comments on the acquisition on its web site, saying "The Six Apart team adds a ton of new skills and technology that will enable us to serve advertisers and publishers much more effectively". The merged companies will now operate under the name SAY Media.

Movable Type, once the "top dog" among blogging tools, has been eclipsed in recent years by WordPress. The New York Times reports that rumours have circulated for years that someone might buy Six Apart.

Moveable Type 5.x has been available as Moveable Type 5 open source for developers, Moveable Type 5 Pro Blogger free of charge, Moveable Type 5 Business at between $395.95 and $995.95 depending on the number of authors supported and Moveable Type 4 Enterprise at a negotiated rate. The versions differ according to the features included and by degree of support. No statement has yet been made by SAY Media about any changes to this version structure or pricing.

The open source version of Moveable Type 5 is still available for downloading under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported licence.
