Oracle logo Two weeks after the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2, Oracle has completed its RHEL clone, Oracle Linux 6.2, which implements the new features of RHEL 6.2. Oracle has added its own Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel as the enterprise distribution's default kernel. Compared with RHEL's default kernel, this offers improved IRQ balancing, network I/O, and memory management, as well as the OCFS2 cluster filesystem. An overview of the advancements of Oracle Linux 6.2 is available in the release notes.

Centos logo The CentOS project has also completed version 6.2 of its free RHEL clone. With this release, the makers of CentOS have caught up with the development of RHEL astonishingly fast – CentOS 6.1 only became available a week ago ago, six months after the release of RHEL 6.1. The new release is currently being deployed to the CentOS servers and once this is complete, the mirror servers will begin updating. CentOS 6.2 could, therefore, become available on the first mirror servers before the end of today, or early tomorrow.

Update: CentOS 6.2 has now been officially released. Release notes are available and the release can be downloaded from a local mirror or downloaded using torrents (DVD ISO torrent files for 32-bitDirect download and 64-bitDirect download x86 systems).
