RHQ logo Version 4.2 of the open source RHQ monitoring framework has been released. This new version includes better detection of changes to settings and files through Drift Management (a feature started with version 4.1 and now completed).

RHQ 4.2 also brings a new REST interface which can be used to access the data collected for presentation and reporting purposes without requiring Java skills. Other changes include server config sync improvements – parts of the configuration of one RHQ server can be taken and applied it to a different server – and fixes for several bugs found in previous versions.

The server monitoring and management software can monitor resources such as databases, web servers and operating systems using various plug-ins. These are available for PostgreSQL, Apache, JBoss, Tomcat and others.

More details about this update can be found in the release notes and in an announcement blog post. Version 4.2 of RHQ is available to download from the project's site; at the time of writing, RHQ 4.2 is listed as 4.1. Hosted on SourceForge, RHQ source code is licensed under the GPL, with some parts individually licensed under a dual GPL/LGPL licence.
