Zentyal Small Business Server (SBS) 2.2 has been released by the developers at Zentyal. Among the new features are support for IPsec and PPTP and the integration of Zarafa 7 groupware software.

Zentyal can also operate as a Unified Threat Manager, Office Server, Infrastructure Manager, Unified Communications Server or in a combination of those tasks with other modules; in all there are 35 open source network management tools included. Other improvements in the release include better performance, thanks to a reworking of the configuration backend to use Redis 2.0, and a more responsive interface. Virtual machine management for KVM and Virtualbox has been built into the Zentyal interface which also offers bandwidth usage data. The installation process has been speeded up and package selection simplified; it is also installable from a USB stick.

In a similar fashion to ClearOS, Zentyal is not a pure community project. The Spanish company develops the distribution but also offers subscriptions for updates, support and signature data, along with selling services for centralised management in the cloud; free basic subscriptions are available. Zentyal 2.2 is available for download and the Ubuntu-based system is licensed under the GPL.
