Version 1.0 of Grails, an open source framework for web applications, has been released. The innovations include a domain-specific language for object mapping (ORM DSL), support for HTTP content negotiation, and easier handling of XML and JSON. For details, see the release notes.

Grails brings some of the ideas behind Ruby on Rails, such as scaffolding and 'convention over configuration', into the world of Java EE. Script language Groovy, also the product of the open source forge Codehaus.org, connects it with such established Java frameworks as Spring and Hibernate.
