PhoneGap Logo The PhoneGap development team has announced the release of version 1.0 of its open source mobile development framework. With PhoneGap, developers can build applications using web standards and technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and deploy them to various mobile platforms, including iOS, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone, Symbian and WebOS – a list of supported features for each OS and its versions is provided.

Launched at PhoneGap Day in Portland, version 1.0 of the HTML5 app platform focuses on accessing native device APIs, as well as improving the overall API stability and "pluggable" architecture. According to the developers, the plugin development process has been simplified; a unifying bridge interface to simplify adding platforms and extensions is also included.

Other changes include improved W3C DAP API compatibility, a Contacts API and updated remote debugging tools. The project's roadmap offers a list of features planned for future versions.

Further information can be found in the official release announcement. PhoneGap 1.0 is available to download (direct download) and documentation is provided. Hosted on GitHub, PhoneGap is sponsored by Nitobi and is made available under the terms of the modified BSD license or the MIT license.
