The VideoLAN Project developers have announced that the Skins2 Contest for the VLC media player is closed to additional submissions and that voting has now begun. VLC (formerly called VideoLAN Client) is a free open source cross-platform multimedia player for various audio and video formats. According to the developers, a total of six skins met all of the contest requirements. The winning skin will be used as the default skin for the skins2 interface for VLC 1.0.0. The contest winner will receive three VLC T-Shirts and their name with a link on most VLC installs.

The developers also announced the availability of the fourth release candidate (RC4) for version 1.0.0 of the VLC Media Player, code named Goldeneye. According to the post, the RC4 release should be the last release candidate before the final release is made available. The release candidate is intended for testing purposes and not for use on mission critical production machines. A final date for version 1.0.0 of VLC, however, has yet to be announced.

More details about the release can be found in the change log. VLC 1.0.0 RC4 is available to download and is released under the GNU General Public License.
