Over four months since it's last release, the VLC media player (formerly called VideoLAN Client) has been updated to version 0.9.9. VLC is a free open source cross-platform multimedia player for various audio and video formats. The update includes several bug fixes, additional localisations and other improvements.

The 0.9.9 release includes new experimental decoders for Real Video 3.0 and 4.0, as well as various Real Media demultiplexer fixes. The Mac OS X version of VLC includes a fix for a bug that could lead to an empty Information panel, addresses multiple UTF8 issues in the Streaming and Exporting Wizard and improves video playback performance for Intel-based Macs. A full screen issue on multi-monitor Windows based systems has been resolved, as have Telnet problems on Windows.

VLC 0.9.9 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. VLC is released under the GNU General Public License.
