AIRKinect

Version 2.2 of the AIRKinect native extension has been released with support for new skeleton tracking features and is available as open source. With AIRKinect, Flash developers can use the Microsoft Kinect – a motion-sensor accessory for Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming console – with Adobe AIR 3.0, and later versions, on Windows and Mac OS X systems; they can then take advantage of the same information and configuration as Microsoft's Kinect SDK.

With the release of AIRKinect 2.2, its developers are making their native C++ code open source and available to the community. The main feature focus of the latest release is eliminating differences between OpenNI and the Kinect SDK. A new skeleton bones structure was added to better support skeleton tracking. Support for tracking seated users and those close to the sensor (near mode) is also included.

AIRKinect is made available under version 2.0 of the Apache licence and requires an ActionScript development environment for AIR 3.0 projects, the Kinect SDK and OpenNI. Downloads and notes on setting up an environment can be found on GitHub. The company behind the extension, as3NUI, specialises in the integration of natural user interfaces (NUIs) into products related to Adobe's AIR platform.
