Upstart 1.5 released
Version 1.5 of the Upstart event-based init replacement has been released. According to Canonical developer James Hunt, the new version brings "console log" improvements and a number of new tests.
For jobs which end before the log disk is writeable, a new "early logging" feature has been added that allows their output to be written once the disk becomes available. Other changes include the ability to detect jobs that leak file descriptors; when debug is enabled, leaky jobs will generate a message. A new "usage" stanza that allows instance jobs to display a message explaining how they should be started when a user doesn't specify the correct variables to start a job. The same message can also be displayed using "initctl usage <job>
".
Full details on these features can be found in the release announcement. Upstart 1.5 is available to download from the project's Launchpad page and is licensed under the GPLv2.
