A new whitepaper by Nth Code CEO Peter McDermott has just been posted, detailing how he has, unofficially, ported a full copy of Android version 1.0 to a Nokia N810 mobile phone. The white paper goes into detail about how Android was installed on the N810 and what was involved. Android has already been unofficially ported once before, but only in a pre-release version. McDermott documents the differences he's noticed in Android's Linux kernel compared to the mainline kernel. He says the differences in memory handling, power management and other areas are "significant".

Currently the Android/Nokia port is unable to run any applications, or get online, due to a lack of compatible drivers, or even charge the battery when using the power supply. McDermott is confident that there will be support for the Android Debug Bridge, some crash fixes, and some other support coming from Nth Code soon.
