Linux Foundation Logo The Linux Foundation has announced that Tuxera has become its latest member. Founded in 2008 and based in Finland, Tuxera was formed by the developers behind NTFS-3G, an open source cross-platform implementation of the Microsoft Windows NTFS file system.

The company offers both commercial services and a commercial version, known as Tuxera NTFS, which features a number of performance improvements over NTFS-3G. Discussing the announcement, Tuxera CEO Mikko Välimäki said, "Joining The Linux Foundation is a natural step for Tuxera," adding that, "Our roots are firmly planted in the Linux and file system communities and our membership will extend this work to include collaboration with the rapidly growing number of consumer electronics manufacturers running Linux in its various forms." Tuxera will also be attending the upcoming 5th annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit, which will take place from 6 to 8 April, at the Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco, California.

Tuxera is the seventh member to join the Linux Foundation so far this year, following software and services specialist Enea, IP management firm Protecode, embedded Linux specialist Timesys Corporation, Broadcom, Cybercom Group and global commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions specialist GoAhead Software. The Linux Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the task of promoting the growth of Linux. Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, is himself sponsored by the foundation.
