Transmission Logo The Transmission developers have released version 2.00 of their popular cross-platform BitTorrent peer-to-peer file sharing client. The major update includes a number of improvements and new features, and addresses several bugs found in the previous 1.93 release.

Transmission 2.00 features "Local Peer Discovery" for finding other peers on a users local network, smarter heuristics for connecting to peers and various platform specific changes, such as the ability to paste trackers into the Create Window, an updated Compact View that replaces the Minimal View and language localisations on Mac OS X systems.

According to the developers, the updated version optimises download requests based on the available bandwidth, improves handling 404 tracker errors, is faster verifying local data and starts up faster than its predecessors. Other changes include support for more blocklist file formats, use of IEC standard units – KiB, MiB, GiB instead of KB, MB, GB – and several user interface updates.

More details about the release are available in the release announcement and in the change log. Transmission 2.00 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Users that currently have Transmission installed can use the built-in "Check for Updates" feature. Transmission is dual-licensed under the MIT License and version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2).
