Toshiba is now offering Sun's OpenSolaris 2008.11 pre-installed on some of their notebooks, following a deal completed in December. The 12-inch Portégé R600 sub-notebook will be available for $1,599 and the 14-inch Tecra M10 will be available from $1,099 to $1,399 depending on included features. According to Sun Microsystems, UK distribution is expected to begin in May. Sun will provide support for these machines with long term support, if required, on a subscription basis.

In addition to OpenSolaris 2008.11, the notebooks will also include the Adobe Flash Player, VirtualBox 2.0.6, OpenOffice 3.0 and a set of developer tools. Pre-installed tools include Glassfish V2, Java SE Development Kit 6 Update 10, NetBeans 6.5, Sun Studio Express 11/08 and a web stack that includes MySQL and the Apache Web Server. A short guidePDF is available with more details and the support page provides installation help and workarounds for the typical problems a user may experience.
