Toshiba has launched its first tablet powered by the "Honeycomb" branch of Google's open source Android mobile operating system in Europe. Like most Honeycomb-based tablets, the AT100 series tablet has a 1200x800 10.1-inch touch screen display and a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 250 processor with 1 GB of RAM.

The device runs version 3.1 of Android and includes a 5.0 MP rear-facing camera, a 2.0 MP web cam, built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR – the company has yet to announce a 3G-enabled version of the tablet. External connectivity includes a full-sized HDMI port, two USB ports and an SD card reader. At 15.8 millimeters deep, the AT100 is one of the thickest Android tablets available, and it weighs in at 765 grams.

At the time of writing, the only model listed on the company's European web site is a 16 GB variant, however, 8 and 32 GB models are available in the US. Toshiba has yet to confirm when the tablet will be updated to version 3.2 of Android, which arrived last month.

More details about new tablet, including a short video, can be found on the Toshiba AT100 Series web site. The AT100 is available now from €450. Toshiba will be showing off the AT100 at this year's IFA consumer electronics trade show, which takes place from 2 to 7 September in Berlin, Germany.
