Tomdroid Logo Tomdroid lead developer Olivier Bilodeau has released version 0.5.0 of his open source Tomboy client for note-taking. Tomdroid allows users running Google's Android mobile operating system to synchronise notes from the Tomboy desktop application to their devices for viewing; the client is currently read-only.

The latest release arrives nearly eleven months after the previous version, and adds new in-app and system search functionality. A context menu has been added so that users can share notes, and error handling and reporting has been improved. Other changes include higher quality icons, new UI feedback for "selected" and "pressed" events, various usability improvements and several bug fixes affecting, for example, SD card synchronisation. The French translation has also been updated and a German translation has been added.

Bilodeau notes that the 0.5.0 release is not intended to be an Android Market release. The developer asks users to test the release, provide feedback and report any bugs that they find. The latest Android Market release is version 0.4.1 from October 2010.

More details about the release can be found in the official release announcement. Tomdroid 0.5.0 is available to download for Android 1.5 or later. Hosted on Launchpad, Tomdroid is licensed under the GPLv3.
