The Tomahawk developers have released version 0.3 of their open source media player. The cross-platform application has the ability to play any file chosen no matter its location. Version 0.3 has many additional features, including a global search bar which can search across all available sources.

Also among the new features are the ability to view and listen to various music charts from within the application, including the top albums and tracks on Last.fm, Spotify and iTunes, and a collapsible footnotes features which can show contextual information on the currently playing track/artist. The update makes adding new sources of media, called "resolvers", easier by providing a built-in "Resolver Gallery". The list of available resolvers is rather extensive and includes YouTube, Grooveshark, Last.fm, iTunes and Blip.fm.

Also available in this release is the ability to drag/drop Spotify, Rdio and iTunes links to the playlist or queue. Support for live-updating XSPF playlists has been added: when the XSPF source is modified, the playlist in Tomahawk will also automatically be updated.

Because of an issue with local files not being resolved to, the developers have since released a minor update, version 0.3.1 to address the bug. Tomahawk 0.3.1 is available to download for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X, and is licensed under the GPLv3.
