Thunderbird logo Mozilla has released version 14.0 of the open source Thunderbird email client, which includes several bug fixes and stability improvements. Lists of the bug fixes and security patches in Thunderbird 14.0 can be found in Mozilla's release notes. The security patches close several critical vulnerabilities which also exist in Firefox and SeaMonkey.

Mozilla recently announced that it is going to scale down its involvement in the development of the software and that it expects future innovation in the product to come from the community. Despite this, there are still several features, including instant messaging support, that it expects to deliver in upcoming releases. The organisation recently published a blog post, saying that efforts towards community-led development on the software are well under way. Mozilla will be continuing to provide infrastructure and support for these efforts.

Thunderbird's source code and binaries are released under the Mozilla Public Licence 2.0 and can be downloaded for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from the project's site. Current users can either upgrade using the built-in update tool or wait for the automatic update notification.
