Apache Roller Logo The Apache Roller project has been conspicuously quiet for some time and the future development of the blogging software, previously mainly developed by Sun and IBM employees, appeared to be in danger. However, there is now some news about Roller: the developers have released version 5.0 of the software which is said to offer an improved file upload management feature, as well as OpenID and OAuth support.

Oracle is now using the web application – which was developed in Java and offers database support – for its blogs.oracle.com infrastructure. This also marks the end of the project to integrate blogs.oracle.com and blogs.sun.com.

Shelan Perera has been confirmed as a new committer. The developer is now working on a Google Summer of Code (GSoC) project, "HTML5 Mobile Template for Apache Roller", to add mobile blogging features to Roller.
