Three more years to the HTML5 standard

According to the amended charter, released today by the working group responsible, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) intends to award the HTML5 standard "last call" status in May, to be followed in three years time by the "recommended" status usually conferred on standards ready for practical deployment. As well as setting out time frames, the charter contains a list of the documents which will go to make up the new standard:

The data storage and networks (push procedure, bidirectional communication, etc.) standards agreed by the Web APIs working group will form part of the standard.

The committee is also calling for the submission of further HTML 5 test cases. "The testing effort will play an important role in the timely completion of the standard." To date there has been only a rudimentary suite of 820 tests primarily concerned with prestigious elements such as audio and video.
