Blender Logo The Blender development team has released version 2.59 of its open source 3D content creation suite. According to the developers, Blender 2.59 marks the official completion of the 2.5 project and represents "the culmination of many years of redesign, development and stabilising work".

This maintenance update is the third stable release of the Blender 2.5 series and brings fixes for 140 bugs found in the previous version which the developers say should offer "big improvements in stability". In the coming weeks, the developers will continue work on the 2.6x cycle, targeting new updates every 2 months. The first changes to be merged into 2.60 include code from some of the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) projects and various other improvements that are currently in the works.

More details about the release, including a list of known problems, can be found in the release log and in the change log. Blender 2.59 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and FreeBSD (32- and 64-bit) from the project's Get Blender page. Blender is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2) and is sponsored by the non-profit Blender Foundation based in Amsterdam.
