A team of hackers showed how they briefly cracked Google's reCAPTCHA system, a backdoor was discovered in a popular FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) chip used by the military, and Moonlight, the open source Mono-based Silverlight clone for Linux, was abandoned. Security specialists discovered a security vulnerability in VMware vSphere 5 that could be exploited to access all data on a virtualised server, and researchers discovered and detailed a new malicious super-spy worm called "Flame".
