The Document Foundation logo The Document Foundation (TDF) has announced that it has joined OASIS (Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards), the international standards development consortium which focusses on ebusiness and web service standards, as a Contributor. According to Document Foundation director Italo Vignoli, TDF will primarily focus its efforts on the Technical Committees for the Open Document Format (ODF), representing the open source productivity suite LibreOffice which it sponsors and governs.

While the LibreOffice project was already represented at OASIS through several other corporate and individual members, TDF Board member Olivier Hallot says that, "the Board of Directors has decided to step in to give voice to the end users and reduce the influence of corporate interests on the future of the Open Document Format".

At its upcoming LibreOffice Conference, which will take place from 17 to 19 October in Berlin, Germany, The Document Foundation notes that it will host a dedicated ODF Plugfest, which is intended to be a vendor-neutral event aimed at gathering ODF experts from across various industries.
