The Document Foundation appoints Advisory Board

The Document Foundation has announced the appointment of the first members of its Advisory Board; the purpose of the board is to provide advice, guidance and proposals to the future Board of Directors and to consult on the development of the Foundation and its projects. The members represent the Document Foundation's sponsors and will each serve for an initial term of one year. The companies named, each of which will have one representative on the board, are Google, SUSE, Red Hat, Freies Office Deutschland e.V., Software in the Public Interest, and the Free Software Foundation.

The announcement comes just three weeks after the foundation established an Engineering Steering Committee to direct and coordinate the efforts of the 120 developers that regularly work on the LibreOffice code. The Document Foundation was established in September 2010 with the forking of LibreOffice from OpenOffice; its intention was to establish a truly free and vendor-neutral office suite.
