Terracotta acquire Quartz Java scheduling software

Terracotta, the Java high-availability experts, have acquired the Quartz open source Java job scheduling software used by many Java developers to manage task scheduling. The acquisition sees Quartz remain under the Apache 2.0 licence while its project infrastructure moves to Terracotta. The company plans to integrate the scheduler into its infrastructure offerings, such as Ehcache, to manage and scale applications in virtualised systems or within private clouds.

James House, founder of Quartz, said “This acquisition will benefit both communities. In the short term, Quartz users will get a cost-effective and easy clustering solution; in the long term, large-scale Terracotta users will be able to easily add Quartz to manage distributed workloads". The companies have already implemented build and test infrastructure and will be offering an enterprise supported version dubbed Quartz Express.
