Terracotta 3.0 released

US Java specialist Terracotta has released version 3.0 of its Java clustering software. Its improvements particularly affect data throughput and scalability. Since the end of 2006, Terracotta's software sources have been available under the Terracotta Public Licence, a variation of the well-known Mozilla Public Licence (MPL). In addition to the freely available Terracotta ES, the vendor also offers the software in commercial EX and FX versions that include maintenance and support.

Terracotta 3.0 uses the second generation of the vendor's proprietary Server Array Striping technology. This considerably improves data throughput, while reducing database loads. Various applications on an application server have access to the cluster data via application sharing. New grid APIs allow the best possible routing of data, depending on its location. The new Developer Console offers more viewing and control options to developers and the new Operations Center gives operations managers access to features like system diagnostics, management, backup and a cluster-wide log viewer.
