Tapestry 5 now ready for production
Tapestry 5.0.18 has been released by the Apache Tapestry developers and labelled as the final release of the open source, Java based, web application framework. The developers now feel that Tapestry 5.0 is now production-ready.
Although previous versions were effectively stable, none of those versions were voted up by the developers as stable. According to the release notes Tapestry 5.0.18 saw two minor bug fixes and is now available to download. This means that there are now two stable Tapestry versions, 4.1 and 5.0, with the 5.0 version being a ground up redevelopment of the Tapestry framework.
Tapestry brings an object oriented approach to creating web applications by using a model view controller (MVC) design to relieve developers of having the create large amounts of "glue" code. It is built upon the Java Servlet API, making it easily incorporated into many web servers. It is also extensible, with components like AppFuse and Jumpstart for rapid application development and Honeycomb, for Hibernate integration. There is also Tapestry integration for Eclipse and NetBeans. Tapestry is available under the Apache Software Licence 2.0.
