Talend logo Talend has acquired the rights to a Master Data Management product (MDM) by French-American vendor Amalto. The acquisition complements the BI specialist's data integration portfolio with a central management solution for master data that allows companies to maintain their data consistency even across applications.

The French vendor plans to release the previously proprietary product as open source software in January 2010. Like the other Talend solutions, the new Talend MDM is to become available both as a free community variant (released under the GPL) and as a commercial version with extended features and professional support.

Talend is targeting this solution at customers for whom the currently available MDM solutions by IBM, SAP and Oracle are too expensive. According to the vendor, Talend MDM will be the first open source product in this field. The new software will interoperate with Talend's other products, the Open Studio/Integration Suite for data integration and Open Profiler / Data Quality for data quality assurance.
