TYPO3 logo The TYPO3 developers have published version 4.6 of their open source CMS (content management system). The new release adds a new Form content element for generating forms and native support for the XLIFF (XML Localisation Interchange File Format) localisation format, replacing the ll-XML file format that was used up to TYPO3 4.5 LTS.

Other changes include performance improvements in the Caching Framework that was introduced in Typo3 4.3, fixes for the Extension Manager and optimisations to the Backend search. The developers note that, for new installations, two security extensions (saltedpasswords and rsaauth) will be automatically activated and used where necessary; users upgrading from a previous version are "strongly advised to manually enable these extensions in order to strengthen the security of their website".

Further information about the update, including a full list of changes, can be found in the standard release notes and in the technical release notes. Version 4.6 of TYPO3 is available to download from the project's site and is licensed under the GPL.
