TI starts open source web portal Openlink.org

TI's Openlink.org, for all your open source TI wireless needs

Texas Instruments has announced the launch of a new website Openlink.org. It aims to bring TI's mobile and embedded Wi-Fi and Bluetooth solutions to the open source developer community under the "Openlink" brand. "OpenLink marks TI's commitment to deliver cutting-edge wireless capabilities into the hands of Linux developers", said Oz Krakowski, TI's open source community manager for wireless solutions; "We intend to continue sharing our expertise with regular OpenLink submissions to the Linux kernel."

The website provides background information on the drivers for the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips that TI has been developing for years as part of the Linux kernel. Openlink.org has those drivers but also offers versions which are optimised for Android, MeeGo or Ubuntu. The site will also be offering open source programmers wikis, IRC channels and mailing lists so they can work together. TI also promises Openlink support for their hardware development platforms such as the Beagle Board and Panda Board.
