SystemRescueCd 2.4.0 released

SystemRescueCD logo Three months after 2.3.0 arrived, version 2.4.0 of the SystemRescueCd Linux distribution has been released. Based on the Gentoo LiveCD and using Xfce as its default desktop, the SystemRescueCd is configured as a tool kit for administering or repairing an operating system and recovering data after a system crash. Supported file systems include Ext2, Ext3 and Ext4, ReiserFS, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660 and Btrfs.

This new version of the distribution sees the standard kernel upgraded to 3.0.8, while the alliterative kernel has been upgraded to the recent Linux 3.1.0 release; the developers note that the Reiser4 patch has been dropped for all kernels. Package updates include version 0.10.0 of the Gnome PARTition EDitor (GParted), X.org Server 1.10.4 and version 7.0.1 of the Firefox web browser.

A full list of changes can be found in the change log. SystemRescueCd 2.4.0 is available to download as a 366 MB ISO image file. Hosted on SourceForge, SystemRescueCd is licensed under the GPLv2.
