SystemRescueCd 2.2.0 brings updated kernels

SystemRescueCd developer and Partimage author François Dupoux has published version 2.2.0 of the SystemRescueCd Linux distribution. Based on the Gentoo LiveCD and using Xfce as its default desktop, the SystemRescueCd is configured as a tool kit for administering or repairing an operating system and recovering data after a system crash. Supported file systems include Ext2, Ext3 and Ext4, ReiserFS, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660 and Btrfs.

Version 2.2.0 sees the standard Long Term Supported (LTS) kernel upgraded to 2.6.38.8, while the alternative kernel based on the more recent version has been bumped from 2.6.38.5 to 2.6.39.1. Python has been updated from 2.6.x to 2.7.x and the latest stable version, 2011.4.12, of the NTFS-3G read/write driver is also included. Other package updates include version 0.8.1 of the Gnome PARTition EDitor (GParted), Gentoo Portage 2.1.9, Samba 3.4.12 and Perl 5.12.3.
