Syslinux 4.00: boot loader for Ext4, Btrfs and large data carriers

Tux Logo H. Peter Anvin has released version 4.00 of the Syslinux boot loader collection. The developer emphasises that a lot of source code – 52,742 lines of changes – was restructured for this version, and filesystem support was rewritten in C.

The new version is now able to boot Btrfs and Ext4. Thanks to full support for partitioning with GPT (GUID partition table), the new version works with storage devices that have more than 2 terabytes of memory if the system's BIOS correctly supports the process. Syslinux can also chain-load Stage2 of Grub; Extlinux now installs the same boot loader binary as Syslinux.
