SyncEvolution 1.0 now with built-in SyncML server

Following several betas, the SyncEvolution development team have released version 1.0 of the SyncEvolution synchronisation tool. With SyncEvolution, users can synchronise personal information management (PIM) data such as contacts, appointments, tasks and memos using the Synthesis Synchronization Mark-up Language (SyncML) sync engine. SyncML is a system of platform-independent standards for synchronisation of PIM data between mobile devices and servers. These standards are maintained by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA).

Unlike previous versions, the latest major 1.0 release no longer requires a third-party SyncML server, as it is now able to act as a SyncML server. It can do so via both HTTP and Bluetooth/OBEX, allowing users to directly sync mobile phones and other devices. The developers note that most Symbian phones, as they are SyncML capable, are supported and a number of configuration templates are included. They have also posted a How To page for those interested in syncing their phone via Bluetooth – some users have already reported success with Sony Ericsson phones.
