Synaptics logo The track pad maker Synaptics has announced that its Gesture Suite software for TouchPads is now available to OEMs. The software itself is not open source and so is unlikely to appear in most Linux distributions. It is aimed at companies making Linux based notebooks and netbooks that want to be able to offer two finger scrolling, three finger gestures, momentum based scrolling and pinch to zoom on their systems.

The Gesture Suite is provided free-of-charge to Synaptics OEMs when ordered with Synaptics TouchPads. Synaptics say the Gesture Suite is compatible with Fedora, Linpus, Red flag, SuSE SLED 11, Ubuntu and Xandros and the company hopes to support new Linux based systems such as the Google Chrome OS in the future. More details on the capabilities of the Gesture Suite are available from the product page.
