The Symbian Foundation has announced that Lee M. Williams has stepped down from his position as Executive Director for what are described as personal reasons. The foundation's board has appointed the Chief Financial Officer, Tim Holbrow, to the Executive Director position with immediate effect.

Williams was appointed Executive Director of the foundation in October 2008, a few months after the foundation was launched in June 2008 to steward the Symbian platform. The Symbian platform was open sourced under the Eclipse Public Licence in 2009. Prior to the Foundation, Williams had led the S60 Software group at Nokia

The change of leadership at the foundation comes after recent difficulties: Samsung and Sony Ericcson dropped support of the Symbian platform at the start of month leaving only Nokia, Fujitsu and Sharp actively supporting the foundation and its mobile phone operating system.
