SugarCon 2011: SugarCRM acquires iExtensions

SugarCRM Logo At its annual SugarCon customer, partner and developer conference, commercial open source customer relationship management (CRM) specialist SugarCRM has announced that it has acquired iExtensions CRM from iEnterprises Inc., which makes CRM software for IBM Lotus Notes. According to SugarCRM, iExtensions has been "the leading CRM solution on the market for IBM Lotus Notes", noting that it received the 2010 Best in Lotusphere Showcase award. The company says that the newly acquired functionality will bring enhanced support for IBM collaboration tools to Sugar 6.

Discussing the announcement, SugarCRM CEO Larry Augustin said, "We are committed to providing our users with the most cutting edge collaboration and social business solutions," adding that, "This acquisition accelerates our product strategy and allows our users to leverage the industry-leading features of iExtensions in their Sugar deployments." As part of the acquisition, iEnterprises CEO John Carini will become SugarCRM's Vice President of Collaboration Solutions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SugarCRM also announced the launch of "SugarCRM for LotusLive", expanding on its previous integration with IBM's LotusLive cloud services. According to the company, the SugarCRM for LotusLive solution makes it easier for enterprises to collaborate and better engage with their prospects and customers. "Social businesses are more engaged with their customers, partners and colleagues," said IBM Social Business Cloud VP Sean Poulley. "The integration of SugarCRM and LotusLive allows deeper levels of collaboration across company boundaries making the process of supporting your customers and building loyalty easier and more effective."

As part of the launch, IBM is offering SugarCRM users a 30-day free trial of LotusLive. A trial of SugarCRM is also available.
