SugarCRM Logo Commercial open source specialist SugarCRM has announced that it has achieved record growth in the third quarter of 2010. Discussing the announcement, SugarCRM CEO Larry Augustin said, "The continued momentum we are seeing around the world is a testament to the fact that businesses of all types are demanding more flexible, intuitive and open solutions," adding that, "Businesses are smarter than ever, and understand the value of open solutions".

SugarCRM says that its record growth, highlighted by a 60% increase in revenue, was sparked by the increased demand for version 6 of its Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, which it released in mid-July of this year. The company added that it has gained nearly 700 new customers globally and 44 new channel partners.

SugarCRM 6 features a number of performance improvements over previous versions and a new front end that the vendor says is more intuitive, although this remains reserved for paying customers – the open source version still has the old user interface. Version 6 of the Sugar Community Edition is licensed under version 3 of the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL3) – previous versions were licensed under the GPLv3.
