Storage Software Appliance from Red Hat with GlusterFS
Two months after it acquired the company behind the GlusterFS cluster/cloud filesystem, Red Hat has announced the availability of its Red Hat Storage Software Appliance. It is built on a combination of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 and GlusterFS 3.2, and installing it provides customers with a server for network-attached storage (NAS) that is largely preconfigured.
Along with its Storage Software Appliance (SSA), designed to run directly on a company's own hardware, Red Hat also offers a Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) for deploying NAS as a virtual appliance – for example, by using Elastic Block Storage (EBS) or Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) from Amazon Web Services (AWS). Further information on the functional scope and application areas of SSA and VSA
is available; trial versions can be requested on the storage products web pages.
