The Speed Dreams developers have announced the availability of version 1.4.0 of their open source 3D motor sport simulator. Speed Dreams is a fork of The Open Racing Car Simulator (TORCS) that includes a number of additional features, cars, tracks and AI opponents.

The new version of the game features, visually improved menus, three new tracks, an updated TRB1 car set and the addition of three new "fine tuned and balanced" car sets, including Super Cars, 36 GP and LS-GT1. Other changes include improvements to existing tracks, a new animated driver, 2 additional leader-board modes and several new gauges. An experimental Simu V3 physics engine has also been added.

More details about the release can be found in the 1.4.0 release notes. Speed Dreams 1.4.0 is available to download for Linux and for Windows XP or later, from Source Forge. The developers note that a Mac OS X port is approximately 95% finished and should be released soon. Speed Dreams is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
